D40 Ventilation Hood for Underground Garage Ventilation: A Project from Hamburg

This project example shows a D40 ventilation hood for the underground parking garage ventilation system of an office complex in northern Hamburg. The existing shaft opening was part of the project-specific ventilation concept and was used for air distribution. However, the horizontal grating provided only limited protection against rain, snow, and leaves entering the shaft. For this reason, rotec developed a weather-optimized ventilation hood as a custom design specific to the project. The D40 ventilation hood directs the air through lateral louvered surfaces. At the same time, the slightly domed roof directs precipitation away to the sides. This article explains the initial situation, the structural design, and key planning requirements. Key Points at a Glance: rotec developed and installed the D40 ventilation hood as a custom design specific to this project. Side...

Planning smoke extraction hoods and ventilation hoods for underground car parks and roof shafts

Further roof solutions for daylight, ventilation and smoke and heat exhaust. In addition to smoke extraction hoods, flat roofs can incorporate rooflights for daylight, ventilation, roof access or smoke and heat exhaust. Our article on configuring and comparing flat-roof domes online helps with product selection and technical assessment. Natural ventilation of underground car parks uses openings or ventilation shafts for air exchange. Wind pressure, thermal buoyancy and pressure differences move the air, so a continuously running fan is not required to generate airflow. However, this solution is not automatically suitable for every car park. Size, use, traffic volume, geometry and state building regulations determine the requirements. The openings must also be sufficiently large, appropriately distributed and...
